Goodbye Gunslinger…

Written by Anita Marks on March 5th, 2008 @ 12:43 pm

Yesterday was a sad day in professional sports…

The announcement of Brett Favre retiring marks the end of a bridge…the bridge that linked the QB’s of our childhood (Montana and Marino) to the QB’s of our adulthood (Manning and Brady). The generation-linker…the throwback in the EA Era!

Word on the street is that “he was too tired”…

Word on the street is that Brett does not think the Packers have what it takes to win a Super Bowl in ‘09…

The Pack was a bad interception away from from winning the NFC… Isn’t that something to build on?

I wish he would reconsider…

Things I’m going to miss about Brett Favre:

great stories about him, his southern small town ways, his southern charm, his winning is everything mentality, calling him a “gunslinger”, him threading the needle, his imperfections and ability to win the battle, bringing the lunch pale - 253 consecutive regular season games / 275 counting playoffs, his boyish smile, his shaved head in honor of breast cancer, his ability to play the best game of his career - just hours after losing his father, and more than anything - i will miss believing that anything is possible when watching him play!

Favre’s place in QB History…

* All time records in TDs and Durability / * 3 MVPs and Super Bowl Rings / * signature MNF game after his dad died / * His 2007 renaissance / * His humanizing - off the field battle with pill - popping / * the gunslinger rep / * his longevity (1991 - 2007)

At Any Means Possible… THINK AGAIN

Written by Anita Marks on February 26th, 2008 @ 11:26 am

Bill Belichick believes you should win at any means possible…

Not sure if Bob Kraft supports that notion!

A group led by former Rams safety Willie Gary filed a $100 million dollar class-action lawsuit - accusing the Patriots of cheating when they defeated St. Louis in Super Bowl 36.  The suit alleges that Belichick illegally had the Rams pre- Super Bowl practice videotaped.

The lawsuit seeks for each player (45): * $25K, the difference between a winner’s and loser’s bonus that year / * $125K compensation for the value of the Super Bowl rings the Rams did not win / and * a REFUND for the 79,922 people who attended the game!

This is classic!

Kudos to Willie Gary and the Rams!

Hopefully the 79K+ fans will get wind of the suit and jump on the bandwagon.

Belichick better hope the judicial system does not take this suit seriously… If they do - there will be more to follow!

The picture is becoming more clear as to why Roger Goodell DESTROYED the video tapes and why the NFL is doing all it can to not allow Congress to get their hands on Matt Walsh (x - Pats video dude)

I just found out today that Roger Goodell makes an annual salary of $11.2 million… I would not be surprised if the NFL makes the Pats pay his salary this year - he just might have saved their a _ _!

A SAD DAY…

Written by Anita Marks on February 13th, 2008 @ 12:31 pm

Today is a sad day in the landscape of professional sports!

Since 10:10am - I have been mesmerized in the Congressional Hearing with Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee.

Two sides - claiming they are telling the truth - yet who do you believe?

Brain, in his opening statement,  so dramatic about his claim…

Roger, stumbling and fumbling with his words to try and clear his name from what he feels is false accusations.

Probably the most interesting aspect of the hearing is Andy Pettite’s testimony - claiming Roger told him he used PEDs in 1999 / 2000.

It is sad that Bud Selig and MLB has allowed the use of PEDs to reach the level of a public circus.

Yes…Brain was wrong for injecting pro athletes with PEDs…and if true, Roger was wrong in cheating the game of baseball.

But more importantly…Bud Selig should be held accountable on the largest scale for turning his head and not policing the sport properly. If he would have done HIS JOB… who knows what I would be doing at 10:10am this morning…

I cant seem to turn away or shut off my TV set…

what about you?

PATS FALL SHORT…

Written by Anita Marks on February 5th, 2008 @ 6:32 pm

Tom Brady might want to start his own blog. He got a lot of hits on Sunday.

Brady hadn’t been on his back that much since…OK, why even go there?

So now we know the key to beating the Patriots. Apply a lot of pressure to their starting quarterback and be the last team to score.

Why didn’t anyone else think of this?

Bill Belichick addressed his team after the game, but he walked out of the locker room with two seconds left in his speech. Some guys are still waiting around for the ending. Give it up, fellas, he’s not coming back.

I’ll be curious to find out how the Patriots come back next season. Will they be even more motivated now – knowing 18-1 doesn’t always get you the Lombardi Trophy – or will they look like Mike Tyson after the Buster Douglas fight – minus the face tattoo?

They don’t seem so intimidating now, that’s for sure. Who’s afraid of the big, bad Wilfolk? Brady still is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game, but it doesn’t matter how many Super Bowls you’ve won and how many super models you’ve dated – you can’t put points on the board when you’re laying under a pile of defensive linemen.

He can only hope that the rest of the NFL wasn’t taking notes…

Super Bowl - Radio Row

Written by Anita Marks on January 30th, 2008 @ 11:50 am

Day 2 in the books at Radio Row in Arizona…

It has been a BLAST co-hosting with the BIG MAN - JO

As much as I would HATE to see him retire…he really is enjoying being a part of the media and i feel has found a second career after football.

Players respect him and can’t wait to jump on board with us - just because it is JO!

In two days…we have had:

Michael Irvin, Randy Cross, AD, Rod Woodson, Rex Ryan, Merrill Reese, Jim Mandich, Greg Doyle, Miss. Nevada, Amanda Beard, Deion Sanders, Conrad Dobler, and Chris Rose…

This is my 8th Super Bowl on radio row…and it is a lot more fun when you have the privilege of hosting a show with a soon to be HOF.

Yesterday was Media Day…and I was able to attend the Patriots session. Between Kellie Pickler and the wack job who dressed up in a wedding dress to pop Tom Brady the question - I was able to get some good interviews from Dan Koppen, Wes Welker, Kevin Faulk, and I even ran into Trent Dilfer.

Last night we attended the media party at “Corona Ranch”…the festivities included bull riding and steer roping…needless to say, I was able to ride the bull a lot longer than JO but neither of us could rope the calf.  It was hilarious to see JO riding an electronic bull…you have to check out the photos on our site.

Off to day 3…stay tuned!

WHO…? WHY…?

Written by Anita Marks on January 25th, 2008 @ 8:29 am

The Ravens named John Harbaugh the third head coach in franchise history, and the immediate reaction was “Who?”

They hired Cam Cameron as offensive coordinator, and the immediate reaction was “Why?”

The next three announcements will probably be followed by “What?” “Where?” and “When?”

Harbaugh might not be a household name among fans, except for a certain quarterback who spent one season with the Ravens, but he’s highly respected by his peers. Head coaches and former players talk as if they’d walk through fire for this guy, and he’d do the same for them.

He was a finalist for the UCLA job, and was linked to at least one NFL opening last year. He comes from a football family, so it’s like he’s been preparing for this job since he was old enough to tie his cleats.

Sort of like Jason Garrett, who treated the job like a safety blitz and rolled away from the pressure.

It was only a matter of time before someone gave Harbaugh a chance.

Why not the Ravens?

Did I say “why?” That’s Cameron. Harbaugh is “who?” Check your program if you get confused.

Cameron was a disaster as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, but let’s give him a mulligan. He should be allowed to tee it up and take another swing (and if you were in charge of the Dolphins, you were playing from the red ones).

Not as a head coach, but as an offensive coordinator – his specialty.

He’ll breath life into the Ravens’ attack. Willis McGahee will get plenty of carries. No need to print anymore T-shirts! And he’ll be a fine tutor for a young quarterback.

It won’t be long before everyone will know John Harbaugh’s name, and Cam Cameron will be recognized again as one of the brightest offensive minds in football, instead of the guy who should have been penalized 15 yards for personally fouling up the Dolphins.

And The Nominee Goes Too…

Written by Anita Marks on January 9th, 2008 @ 2:01 am

And The Nominee Goes Too…

Roger Clemens is either the world’s greatest actor or he did not take PEDs…claims made by his x-trainer, Brian McNamee, in the Mitchell Report…

Mark your calendars ladies and gentlemen…January 15th and 16th will be two days you will want to call into work sick…stay home…get the bag of popcorn ready and while your at it - a few bottles of wine!

I don’t think anything can come close to the OJ Simpson Trial…folks filed for unemployment to stay home for the year to watch that case unfold…

But for 2 days - you will hear Bud Selig, Don Fehr, George Mitchell, Roger Clemens…and possibly Andy Pettitte…and Chuck Knoblauch…both former teammates of Clemens…and maybe even Brian McNamee and Kirk Radomski - THE RATS!!! …testify before a Congressional committee - being asked questions regarding use of PEDs in MLB.

Could you ask for a better cast?????

A very interesting turn of events since Sunday… and no I am not talking about American Gladiators!

Roger Clemens denied allegation of using PEDs on “60 Minutes” with Mike Wallace… and in my opinion did not go so well…

on Monday - an ESPN.Com / Sports nation Poll was posted and 65% of the country still believed that Roger JUICED UP!!!

Sunday evening, following the interview - Roger filed a defamation lawsuit against Brian McNamee…

Monday, Roger held a news conference in which he played a 17 min. taped phone conversation between him and McNamee from 3 days prior…at one point, Brian told Roger “All I did was what I thought was right. And I never thought it was right, but I had no other choice”

Me…personally… Sunday evening I believed Roger Clemens cheated the game of baseball by using PEDs…

Monday evening - after the dog and pony show - I have my doubts…

and more importantly - I question the validity of the Mitchell Report…

Clemens decision to testify in front of Congress now centers on his public image… Even though there is risk of perjury involved in testifying - if you want to clear your name - it is something you have to…right?

Because in our country - you are GUILTY until proven INNOCENT…

Clemens’ attorney Hardin said…”This is basically going to be Roger’s show with the committee…The Congress will take the position he’s out on the mound alone.”

Hopefully he’s got game that day!

And you can guarantee the world will be watching as the actors take the stage and this drama unfolds even more…

Stay Tuned!!!

THINGS TO PONDER ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON

* Since Brian Westbrook plays fantasy football - did he lay an egg at the 1 yard line because he was challenging an opponent who had HIM on THEIR roster…????

* Will Jessica Simpson ever step foot into Texas Stadium again…?

* Better yet - will Jessica ever accept TO as a “FRIEND” on her MY SPACE Page…?

* Will Greg Camarillo (FINS WR) - ever have to pay for another drink or dinner in Miami, FL?

* WHAT IF… Billick would have GONE FOR IT on 4th and goal… would fans still demand his termination if he still lost…?

* Would Brian Roberts have come out and admit to using PFD’s…if he knew his name WAS NOT on the Jason Grimsley affidavit…?

* Will Roger Clemens ever be elected into the HOF…?

* Will Parcels draft McFadden…or trade the # 1 pick in the ‘08 NFL Draft…?

* Who will be the offensive coordinator of the Ravens next year…?

* Will JO, Steve, Ray, and Suggs be back in Baltimore next season if Billick is still calling the shots…?

* At the end of the day…will Mario Williams be a better lineman than Reggie Bush a RB…?

* Did Paplebon’s dog REALLY eat the World Series ball…or are we going to see it up for sale on E BAY ten years from now…?

* Will The Pats score over 33 points and Tommy Boy throw 6 TD’s Sunday vs the Dolphins…just to add insult to injury…?

* Will Brian Billick set Troy Smith up for failure on Sunday…just to avoid opening up PANDORA’S QB CONTROVERSY BOX…?

* Did Michael Jordan have any idea that his infidelity would cost him $168 MILLION dollars…?

* Will I make it through this Christmas Holiday without gaining 10 pounds…?

things I ponder on THIS Saturday afternoon…
