Goodbye J.O.
So, Jon Ogden will not be playing left tackle for the Baltimore Ravens next season. Goodness does that make me feel old.
It has all been said. He is one of the greatest players in the history of Baltimore football. As Ozzie Newsome explained yesterday, the course of the Ravens franchise would be dramatically different if the Ravens had not selected Ogden and Ray Lewis in that 1st draft.
Ogden is different than most of the athletes we cover and cheer for day to day. He is someone who is a thinker and not just a jock. A cerebral person who is walking away at the right time.
He will be missed; it’s hard to imagine that there will ever be another lineman like him .
He was one of the cornerstones upon which this franchise was built… and that is a line I heard Jim McKay say to describe Brooks Robinson with the Orioles….
Speaking of the O’s… and great Baltimore sports memories…. The Pittsburgh Pirates are in Baltimore for the 1st time since October 1979. Of course the Birds lost to the Bucs in ‘71 and ‘79 in 7 games. Devastating. But… that ‘79 O’s team was so special. It was when the “Magic” truly began. The O’s had a 23-6 June that year. And there was a new hero every night. Great times on 33rd street….
It is going to be a great summer weekend… especially at the Ball Park. The Orioles are putting on some fun and festivities.
I’ll be there tonight. Give a wave and a holler.
Remember… fun and safety go together… Cheers!
