As we apprach the Madness that is March, and arguably the best month of the year in sports, take a look around at area schools that have a legit chance to go dancing this year.

Maryland Men’s Basketball: 7 and 4 in the ACC,  17-9 overall….They need 2 wins to secure an at large bid.

Maryland Women’s Basketball: 11-1 in the ACC and an unbelievable  27-2 overall… They’re in the big dance and they have almost secured a Number 1 seed. They are currently a 1/2 game out of first.

UMBC: 10-2 in the American East Conference… they are  in first place and have a  two- game lead on 2nd place.

Morgan: 10-2 in the MEAC… They are tied for first  place in their conference.

Loyola College: A big win last night… puts them in a four way tie in the MAAC at 11-5.

So three Baltimore schools are in first place in their respective conferences.

Other area teams… Towson is 6 and 9 and Coppin is 3 and 8.

Obviously, only the University of Maryland teams can grab at large bids… the other schools must win their respective conference tournaments. But, what a March it could be around here if multiple BMORE teams get their shot at the glass slipper….  It is going to be fun. And only a few short weeks to go.

All Loyola College conference tourney games will be on ESPN Radio 1300 unless they conflict with Maryland games.

My Orioles prospect list will either be out later today or tomorrow. I might break it down into 2 separate lists: 20-11 and 10-1.

A thought for my dog Camden… who is in surgery today.  And yes… she is named for our favorite Yard.
