Is Manny Just Being Manny ?

This just in.  Sometimes on sports-talk radio we can over analyze something.  You think ?

And so it was this morning on the Mike and Mike show on ESPN Radio 1300.  Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez made what he probably thought was an innocent comment yesterday and today it’s getting analyzed and over-analyzed.

Of the Red Sox 3-1 ALCS deficit vs. Cleveland and the prospect of losing the series he said “If it doesn’t happen, who cares ?  There’s always next year, it’s not the end of the world.”

It seems like now some are taking that to mean he doesn’t care and might not give the full 100 percent in the rest of the series.  I’m not going to try and figure out what Manny really means or thinks, is there anyone anywhere who can do that ?

When I think of Manny Ramirez I don’t think of words like leadership, hustle, team player or  role model.  But the words “run producer” come to mind.  He drives in runs with amazing consistency.

In 7 playoff games to date he has 9 hits in 21 at bats with 4 homers and 11 RBI.  In the ALCS he has an OBP of .611 and is slugging .921.  There are very few hitters still feared in the game.  He is one of them.

Red Sox nation, don’t worry what Manny says, just let his bat do the talking.  His quote spiced up an off day in the ALCS and gives sports-talk radio some fodder, but in the end its about what he does and not what he says.

That must be what they mean when they say “Manny is just being Manny.”

Amen to that!!! You are so right, but the Bosox will still be waiting until next year. So I think that all Manny was trying to do is prepare the Red Sox Nation so there would be no calls for Francona’s head…no one flipping out…no couch fires…no over-turned cars on Yawkey Way. It’s just a game people…in the end we all expire.

The score is 38-7 , Ravens fans are upset about the game. Then ESPN pans to the sideline. You see Ogden, Heap, Mcnair and a host of Ravens players laughing, looking like a tailgate party at M&T during a home game.Bottom line is not to be upset and sweating the loss. The players could care less. They will still get paid the big bucks for such a sad day at work.
