Joseph Vincent Flacco
Well hello everyone…
One of the things I absolutely love about Baltimore and the mid-Atlantic region is that you really feel the different seasons. I’m not a big Winter guy, but Fall and Spring around here are amazing.
I couldn’t imagine living in a place where it is hot or cold all year round….
And when talking about seasonal changes, it is also time to talk about the changing of athletic seasons.
Now, it is begginning to feel like football season. Of course, over the last decade around here… Fall means baseball season is coming to an end…. with no hope to play in October….
I will have a whole Orioles assessment over the course of the next 3 weeks, in which I will try to tackle tough questions, like what was accomplished this season; what wasn’t; what should be the off season plan.
For now, I have to talk about the Ravens… There was an electric feeling on Sunday, it was one of those days I won’t soon forget. I don’t know whether Joe Flacco will prove effective over his career, nor do I know how many wins John Harbaugh will accumulate as the Ravens head coach. But, I do know that since last Sunday about 2.5 million Baltimoreans feel a hell of a lot better about things.
Just to go on the record with it, my preseason Ravens prediction was 6 and 10. I hope I’m very wrong, but I’m not going to change it.
Flacco will struggle this year if he makes a lot of starts, but the poise he showed on Sunday was just incredible. For Ravens fans, it was damn exciting. The goal is just to keep getting better every week.
Switching topics and switching tones… I would be remiss if I didn’t note that tomorrow is September 11. Obviously, it is our role here to talk sports… but I personally find it difficult to even think about something as trivial as sports on September 11. So, I just want to mention it, and as we go through our daily routine on Thursday, at least take a moment to think about what happened 7 years ago.
One of my favorite documentaries of all time is an HBO one called “9 Innings from Ground Zero” . This is the 1st year since 9/11 that HBO will not air the film nor put it On Demand….Have we already forgotten? I hope not.
You better believe I called HBO in New York today asking for an explanation….
