Orioles quesions … and answers

Written by Mark Zinno on March 25th, 2008 @ 4:30 pm

Opening day is less than one week away.  There are still several questions that need answering, like who is the fifth starer, who will start at shortstop, and what will the bullpen look like.  My question is what is taking so long?  Now, I have a good deal of respect for what Dave Trembley has done, but what is really going to change between now and the last four spring training games that will sway Trembley in either direction??

For my money, Matt Albers is the fifth starter, Luis Hernandez is the shortstop (I know the numbers this spring say otherwise, but there is more than numbers that go into that decision) and the bullpen is Brian Burress in long relief, Jamie Walker, Chad Bradford, Randor Bierd, Dennis Sarfate and George Sherrill is the closer.

Even if you disagree, what will Trembley see over the next five days that will dramatically change it?  The Orioles need to focus on what they have and get ready to compete with the big boys of the AL East.  The only question left should be is Brian Roberts going to be an Oriole in five days.  Now that is one, even Dave Trembley doesn’t have the answer to.
