Ravens More Lucky Than Good Right Now
So thanks to that missed field goal, the Ravens breath a huge sigh of relief today.
A record of 3 and 2 looks pretty good, but the teams’ play right now looks pretty shaky. Would you like the Ravens chances this week if they were scheduled to play
Pittsburgh ? How about
New England ? Or Indy ?
The Ravens almost lost to a 49ers team that was playing without its starting quarterback and without its starting TE and LT. They are ranked last in the NFL in offense (now we know why) and had been beaten by 20 points a week earlier.
After watching the 49ers ineptness on offense, I don’t know if the Ravens defense is back or not. The 49ers had just 38 yards of offense, zero yards passing, in the first half. Their “attack” on offense may set the NFL back 20 years.
As for the Ravens offense, well, Steve McNair did plenty of mis-firing and once again, the team could not generate anything downfield in the passing game. Willis McGahee ran hard and with all the passes he caught as well, he was almost a one-man show.
But, the Ravens are only one-game back of first place
Pittsburgh at 3-2. However, while the Steelers have out-scored their opponnts on the season by 85 points (132-47) the Ravens have allowed nine more points than they have scored. Does anyone really think these teams are close ?
On the bright side, the rookies on the OL held up well, some of the big names on defense fnally made some plays and there’s always Matt Stover.
Yes, the Raven are a little lucky to be 3-2 and luckier still that winless
St Louis comes next. But the schedule of November and December is brutal, and, if the on-field play doesn’t dramatically get better, the team will be in for a late-season swoon.
