‘Roid Rage
On this late Friday, icy afternoon a topic was talked about heavily on the Anita Marks Show that kind of got my panties in a bunch, as they say. John Rallo, a former mixed-martial arts fighter, was in studio talking about MMA and steroids. I thought he made some pretty relevant points. Rallo thinks that steroids should be legalized in America. I can’t say I totally disagree.
I had to listen to caller after caller tell him he was crazy, that steroids have been killing people years and that he was wrong, and he was a bad person for encouraging the use of something like that. Obviously people don’t do their homework and don’t listen well either.
To piggy-back on what Rallo was saying, steriods have never been proved to be the actual cause of death of anyone! Not Lyle Alzado, not Chris Benoit, not anyone. That is not opinion, it is fact. The other main argument I heard from people was that this piece of brilliance … “if I took illegal drugs at my job and failed a drug test I would get fired” … well, first off, who was the last person working at Kinko’s who was drug tested for steroids or HGH? Name the last guy who works for Legg Mason who got let go because he came up hot for Deca or D-bol? The silence is deafening! In fact, name the last time you heard that steroids caused someone who to be unproductive in the workplace????? This is an argument that 1st year law students wouldn’t even dare use!
And oh by the way, the mere fact that someone who works for a “regular business” would even compare their job to a professional athlete is just plain stupid! That’s like saying the quarterback and kicker are equal on a football team because they both wear the same jersey! Ummmmm … no!
Lastly, for those of you who listen to the show may know that I am in the military. The United States Army does not even test for steroids. I am sure they can tell in their drug test if you are on steroids, but no soldier has ever been chaptered out of the Army for steroid use. Smoke one joint though … and you’re gone! Ironic, isn’t it? I personally know of many soldiers who have used steroids. Some of this country’s finest soldiers who do the military’s toughest jobs are on the juice. No one bats an eye.
I won’t say I think that steroids are useful in society or that they should even be legal. But at the end of the day, if someone wants them bad enough, they are going to get them. I’d rather spend the government’s resources, time and money to getting rid of crack, cocaine, herione and acid than worry about performance enhancing drugs. Let professional sports figure this one out on their own.
