Heads rolling

I hated what happened at The Sun this week. Some very good friends of mine were cast out, their lives upended. The ability to pay mortgages, tuition, car payments, BGE bills, all cast into uncertainty.

Two columnists were fired over the phone while at Camden Yards. As my pal Peter Schmuck so movingly wrote  in his blog, it was awful to see David Steele and Rick Maese be executed in front of everybody. Classless-that’s the word for it. If someone is going to fire you, they have to look you in the eye to do it. That’s the rule. No e-mails, no phone calls. Someone at the Sun should be very ashamed of themselves.

I hate even more what is causing all this. The wreckage of what was once our economy. Sometimes I feel as if everyone on Wall Street should face an international tribunal. These are very frightening times, especially for those of us in the media business. No job is safe. It’s awful.

All this is really getting me down. I think I’ll go wash out my brain with soap.
