Dancing with the Ravens

So the Ravens win 38-24 … the offense went for over 500 yards … Ray Rice ran for over 100 yards … Joe Flacco threw for over 300.  What a game!  Maybe it’s just me, but something else stood out to me.

Joe Flacco’s second completion of the day was a 22-yard catch made by Kelley Washington.  After being tackled, Washington promptly got up and began dancing and celebrating.  There was 12:28 seconds left in the 1st quarter with the score tied at 0-0.

Hmmm … where should I start?  How about being a professional and just walking back to the huddle?  How about acting like you’ve caught an NFL pass before?  How about sportsmanship and not showing up your opponent in the 1st quarter of a 0-0 tie?  How about none of these things happening …

I guess I am the one who needs to relax.  It’s my fault.  This young buck is old school and I just have to learn to deal with it.  In reality I have no problem with celebrating and celebrations.  I have a problem with the timing and the place.  If you get in the endzone, celebrate!  You win a football game, dance until your cleats fall off.  Have a blast!  In fact, I chastise the NFL going overboard with fines.  But let’s clarify one thing … Chad Ochocinco’s grabbed a sign and showed it to the camera.  He even took over for a camera operator!  He put on a Hall of Fame coat on the sidelines … AFTER a touchdown!  Terrell Owens stood on the star in Dallas … AFTER a touchdown!  He pulled out a sharpie, shook a cheerleader’s pom-poms … AFTER a touchdown.

Kelley Washington has a total of nine touchdowns in a seven-year career.  I can’t remember any of his celebrations … well except for the ones after a first down catch in the 1st quarter of a 0-0 game.
