At the half-way point …

When sitting in the drivers seat, you should always know where all the controls are.  The driver knows where the emergency brake is … the pilot knows where the ejector level is … and the captain of the ship always knows where the life preservers are!  I guess my question about the Ravens is, does John Harbaugh know where the panic button is??

Now, contrary to what many think, I am usually a level-headed person who tries never to get too high or too low.  But you are what your record says you are … and right now the Ravens are an average team that is struggling to find an identity, and more importatly, a way in the AFC playoff picture.

The problems are many … the answers too few. Right now, I’d like to say that this team isn’t as bad as the team that showed up and got flat out BEAT by the Bengals yesterday.  Although, I think the division title has passed the Ravens by, they are still in control of their own destiny for a wild-card.  They have to win some tough games against some good teams, which they can do (see win over Denver as a reference).  But they have to make some obvious changes if they want that destiny to come to fruition.

These are decisions that coaches make that can change a season.  But from week to week, series to series and down to down, it’s the players who have to make those decisions by the coaching staff become good ones. It’s those players who have to validate the decisions by the front office to keep or bring a certain player in a Ravens uniform as a good one.

One way or another, the NFL has asked for the Ravens “man-card” and it’s up to this team to step up and be a legit playoff contender.  With John Harbaugh at the controls and a finger on the panic button … another loss like yesterday could have the memory of the 11-5 team that went to the AFC Championship game being just that … a memory.

    Ron Says:

Harbaugh and coaches need to have the guts to give some new blood a chance to prove themselves on the field. Ray Rice needs to be used more creatively and get the ball in the flat or open field more often. He is one of the most danderous players in the NFL in the open field ! The line play is horrible intensity wise. I would ply the Denver game on all of the big screens at the Castle on a continuous loop for the REST of the year with a big banner under each TV that reads “PLAY LIKE A RAVEN !”
